“After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions.” (Luke 2:46 NIV)
Every person is “found” somewhere—among friends, among distractions, among pressures, among ambitions. Jesus, at age twelve, gives us a powerful picture of spiritual hunger, intentional growth, and kingdom identity. While others of His age were absorbed in childhood routines, Jesus positioned Himself among the teachers, listening, asking questions, and engaging deeply with Scripture. His posture reveals that spiritual maturity is not accidental; it is cultivated through intentional pursuit.
Jesus was not lost; He was simply located in purpose. Mary and Joseph found Him where every believer should desire to be: in the center of God’s will, learning, growing, and aligning with the Father’s business. This is a call to us to examine our own spiritual positioning. Are we found among distractions, or among the teachers—places of learning, accountability, and growth? Jesus models a life that prioritizes spiritual formation above comfort and routine. Jesus increased in wisdom. He remained where truth was taught and where His heart could be shaped.
Reflect on these questions
- Where am I “found” spiritually in this season?
- What intentional steps am I taking to grow in wisdom and understanding?
- Who are the “teachers” God has placed around me for sharpening? Do I listen to them?
