Planted by Streams of Water

“He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.” (Psalm 1:3 NIV)

Atree does not survive the dry season because the weather is kind, but because its roots are deep. In many African villages, a tree planted near a river stays green even when everything around it turns brown. The secret is simple: its roots reach a hidden supply underground. While other trees depend on rain, this one draws life from a constant, unseen source.

Psalm 1 paints this same picture of the believer who delights in the Word of God. The blessed person is “like a tree planted by streams of water,” steady, nourished, and fruitful in every season. Life may bring heat, pressure, or scarcity, but those whose roots are anchored in Scripture do not wither. God’s Word becomes their hidden supply—strengthening their minds, refreshing their spirits, and guiding their steps.

To be planted is to be positioned intentionally. God calls His Church to be rooted, not restless; grounded, not drifting; nourished, not surviving on occasional spiritual rainfall. When we meditate on God’s Word day and night, we draw from a source that never runs dry.

-Do not depend on Sunday alone; sink your roots into Scripture daily.
-Stop trying to grow in environments that drain you spiritually. Choose your influences intentionally: your friendships, media, and conversations.
