Turning Your Mountains into Level Ground

“So he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit.’ Says the Lord Almighty. “What are you, O mighty mountain? Before Zerubbabel you will become level ground …” (Zechariah 4:6-7 NIV)

Every one of us knows what it feels like to stand before a mountain. Not a physical mountain, but a situation so
overwhelming, so immovable, so intimidating that it steals our breath. A challenge that makes you say, “Lord, can this ever change?” The mountain could be a financial burden, a broken relationship, a ministry assignment that feels too heavy, or the quiet weight of discouragement.

Zechariah 4:1 a promise and a mountain. The people of Judah had returned -7 is God’s word to people who feel stuck between from exile with excitement. They laid the foundation of the temple with singing and dancing. But soon, opposition came. Resources dried up. The people grew weary. The work stopped for nearly 20 years. Zerubbabel, the governor, was discouraged. The people were discouraged. The dream was delayed, and the mountain seemed too high. Then God’s word came directly to Zerubbabel: the mountain before you shall become level ground.

This is God’s word to anyone who feels too small for the task in front of them. God’s work cannot be done by human might or power, neither can mountains be removed by human efforts or strength, but by the Spirit of God. Beloved, God is greater than the mountains before you. Whatever mountain you face today, God sees it, and He is not intimidated by it. The mountain that looks permanent to you is temporary to God. It is your stepping stone to greatness.
