Humility John 3:22-30
Humility is an accurate understanding of your position, abilities, and importance in relation to God and others. It does not require a person to deny their abilities or pretend they have no value. Rather, humility recognizes that everything we have ultimately comes from God and that we are not the center of His purposes.
Humility is the willingness to place yourself under God’s authority, to give others proper honor, and to surrender personal recognition when it conflicts with God’s glory. A humble person does not have to be the most important person in the room, receive the credit, win the argument, or protect his reputation at all costs.
John the Baptist gives us a clear example. John had a ministry, a following, and people coming to him. When his disciples became concerned that Jesus was gaining more followers, John did not see Jesus as a rival. He simply said, “He must increase, but I must decrease.”
John understood that his purpose was not to build John’s name. His purpose was to point people to Christ.
Humility asks, “How can Christ be lifted up?” rather than, “How can I be lifted up?”
