“You know, brothers, that our visit to you was not a failure. We had previously suffered and been insulted in Philippi, as you know, but with the help of our God we dare to tell you his gospel in spite of strong opposition.” (1Thessalonians 2:1-2 NIV).
Gospel proclamation has, over the centuries, been a challenging task, as it is often met with opposition,
skepticism or hostility. However, no matter the obstacles, the gospel of Christ must be preached, as we invite others to join us on this journey to eternity with Christ. Paul reminds the Thessalonians that his visit was not in vain and that, even after being mistreated in Philippi, he and his companions courageously proclaimed God’s message. But Paul submits that whatever he and his companions might have been able to do, it has been made
possible by the help of God.
In this world where Christian beliefs are sometimes met with skepticism or hostility, with God’s help and strength, we can stand firm and continue to share the Gospel courageously with integrity, perseverance and love. God has placed you in that family, community, school, place of work, among others, to boldly share your faith, even in the face of challenges. Are you facing opposition, being attacked or persecuted because of your faith? Don’t give up. Though it’s not an easy road, with God’s help, you will reach your goal.
