“But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?” He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”
(Genesis 3:9-10 NIV).
After Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, they realized their nakedness and hid from God. God’s question, “Where are you?” is not because God does not know their location but rather an avenue for Adam to come forward and acknowledge his actions. Adam responds to God’s call by expressing his fear and shame. He admits that he hid because he realized he was naked. Adam’s response reveals the fear and shame that result from sin. However, God’s question was an invitation for Adam and Eve to come out of hiding and acknowledge their actions. Unfortunately, they both shifted the blame.
Be reminded that God is still calling people to come out of their hideouts and return to Him. Are you contemplating going into hiding, or have you gone hiding because of your sins and ways of life? Stop running away from God’s presence! Stop running away from the gathering of God’s people! Stop running away from hearing the gospel message! Stop running away from those spiritual leaders who speak the truth! No matter how far you have gone? The Lord is calling you today to come out of your hideout and return to Him in confession and repentance. He is compassionate and ready to forgive and restore you to Himself.
