The Announcement

‘“But the angel said to him: “Do not be afraid, Zechariah, your prayer hasbeen heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to give him the name John.” Luke 1:13- 17

While Zechariah was serving in the temple, the angel Gabriel appeared to him and announced that Elizabeth would bear a son, whom they were to name John. Zechariah, a priest, and his wife Elizabeth, though righteous before God, they were childless and advanced in years. Gabriel explains that John will be great in the sight of the Lord and prepare the people for the coming of the Lord. However, Zechariah doubted the angel’smessage due to his and Elizabeth’s old age, which led to him being unable to speak until the day the child was born.

God’s word to you this week is: As Christ’s disciple, trust in God’s word, promises, and timing, even when circumstances seem challenging. Faithfulness to God does not exclude you from experiencing the waiting season, and no matter how long you wait, God will do what He has purposed to do. Have faith in God’s plans and act in obedience to His instruction and guidance.
