You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? … You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. (Matthew 5:13-14 NIV).
Jesus used the metaphor of salt and light to convey a profound message to His disciples about their identity, as he referred to His followers as “the salt of the earth” and “the light of the world.” Just as salt preserves and flavors food, Christians are called to influence the world positively. Our lives should bring out the best in others, preserving moral values and pointing people toward God.
As “the light of the world,” we are to illuminate the darkness and draw others to Jesus Christ, the source of all light. Just as light dispels darkness, our lives should impact the world. We are called to let our light shine before others through good deeds, kindness, and love so that they see God’s glory. Do not hide your light; instead, let it radiate boldly anywhere and every time. As salt and light, you have a dual role of preserving godliness and illuminating your world with the truth of God’s word and your life.
