No, Not One

“There’s not a friend like the lowly Jesus, No, not one! No, not one! None else could heal all our soul’s diseases, No, not one! No, not one! Chorus: Jesus knows all about our struggles; He will guide till the day is done. There’s not a friend like the lowly Jesus, No, not one! No, not one!

(Stanza 1, BH 152- 2008 Edition).

The hymn “No, Not One” and some others like “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” and “The Lily of the Valley,” amongst others, talk about Jesus’ friendship with His followers. These hymns are very heart-touching when they are being sung and make one feel that intimacy with Jesus. Many of those hymns have been translated into hundreds of languages and are more real to the singers, particularly when rendered in their mother tongue. I have personally witnessed people crying when such songs were sung in their mother tongue.

Today is another Hymn Singing Service, and our focus is on Jesus as a Friend. Therefore, be encouraged, for Jesus is the true and faithful friend with whom you can share your thoughts, hopes, fears and secrets. Cast your burdens upon Jesus, for he cares for you. Jesus, as a friend, is the best, one and only counsellor who is always with his friend in times of need. He is always available to encourage and help. Are you troubled? Do you feel abandoned? Jesus is the best friend you can turn to.

Remember, Jesus knows all about your struggles; He will guide you till the day is done. “There’s not a friend like the lowly Jesus, No, not one! No, not One!
