Leaving Ready for Christ’s Return

“So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled.” (1 Thessalonians 5:6 NIV).

Paul exhorts the Thessalonian church, “So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober” (1 Thessalonians 5:6). Readiness begins with spiritual alertness, a posture of intentional living that refuses to drift into complacency. It means:

 Prioritising daily devotion through prayer and Scripture
 Serving faithfully in the body of Christ
 Living with eternity in view, making choices that reflect kingdom values

Purposeful living is not driven by fear of judgment, but by love for the One who gave His life for us. It’s a response to grace, not a performance for approval.

To live ready for Christ’s return is to live with urgency, humility, and hope. It is to walk in holiness, serve in love, and build up the body of Christ. It is to be found faithful, not perfect, but prepared and aiming towards perfection. As Paul reminds us, readiness is not just about watching the skies; it’s about walking in the Spirit, loving the Church, and trusting the God who is faithful to complete what He began.
