“Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” (Matthew 9:35-36 NIV).
Jesus carried out his ministry with compassion. He did not just preach, when he saw the crowd, He felt their pain. That compassion moved Him to action.
What would it look like for us to see our own harbor (community), with that same divine empathy? Your harbor is your sphere of influence: your family, your church, your neighbourhood, your calling, amongst others. To impact your sphere of influence, ask God to help you see people not as problems, but as precious, and pray with urgency. And as you pray, be open to God’s voice, be willing to go if He sends you, and act purposefully. Step into the field, preach, teach, heal, encourage and impact your world.
Jesus didn’t just feel compassion; He acted based on what He saw. Compassion without action is sentiment. Therefore, try meeting one practical need this week: bring food to a struggling family, visit the lonely, help someone job-hunting, or offer support to someone who needs it, intercede with intent by praying specifically for someone under the bondage of Satan and sin.
