‘“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7 NIV).
This passage, among many others in the scriptures, provides profound guidance to us as Christ’s disciples on what should be our response in difficult and challenging times. Apostle Paul instructed the believers in Philippi not to be anxious about anything. Instead of being anxious, he encourages them to present their request to God through prayer and petition, backed with thanksgiving. When this is done, Paul submits that we will experience the peace of God, which transcends all understanding.
We live in a world of uncertainties, and a lot of things happen to us that get us thinking or, at times, bring anxiety. However, keeping our thoughts and emotions anchored in God’s word and love and going to Him humbly in prayer can offer us great relief and peace. A section of the hymn What a Friend We Have in Jesus, says, “Oh, what peace we often forfeit, Oh, what needless pain we bear, All because we do not carry Everything to God in Prayer.” Instead of carrying your burdens alone and letting them overwhelm you, can you please present them to God in prayer and leave them at His feet?
