Called to be a Disciple

“Come, follow me.” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” At once they left their nets and followed him.”’ Going on from there, he saw two other brothers … They were in a boat with their father … Jesus called them.” (Matthew 4:19-21 NIV).

Jesus calls His disciples to follow him, and as His followers, we are to follow Him no matter the cost. We need to respond to the divine calling to intimacy with Jesus individually and prepare to learn from His life so we can effectively replicate His life and ministry. Jesus desires our intimate relationship with him; intimacy with Christ is more important than service in His Kingdom Intimacy with Christ is a necessary preparation and basis for meaningful discipleship.

While some show indications of following Jesus closely, others follow him partially, and some do not even show interest in following Him. As Christ’s disciples, we are not called to follow. Jesus from a distance but to actively follow Him closely and intimately, learning from Him and imitating His love and service. And as a disciple, you are also commissioned to make disciples of
all nations.
