Benefits of Releasing One’s Resources to Jesus

“They replied. “The Lord needs it.” They brought it to Jesus, threw their cloaks on the colt and put Jesus on it. As he went along, people spread their cloaks on the road.” (Luke 19:34-36 NIV)

Jesus instructs His disciples to untie a colt, and when questioned, they simply responded: “The Lord needs it.” The owners released the colt; he did not argue or delay. Their obedience allowed Jesus to fulfill Zechariah 9:9. Jesus rides into Jerusalem as the humble King, fulfilling prophecy, initiating His final journey, and ushering in a new covenant. What seems ordinary, a colt, a cloak, a road, becomes sacred when surrendered to the Lord. When we release our resources to Jesus, they become instruments of divine purpose. When we release our time, talents, or possessions to Jesus, we participate in His unfolding plan. Our obedience becomes the gateway to divine orchestration.

A colt, a dusty road, cloaks laid down, none of these were extraordinary in themselves. But in Jesus’ hands, they became symbols of kingship, humility, and worship. What we offer may seem small- a home for fellowship, a meal shared, a word of encouragement, a little act of kindness, a donation, and the likebut when given to Jesus, it carries eternal weight. The colt’s owners are unnamed, yet their obedience is forever recorded in Scripture. When we release our resources to Jesus, we may not always see the full impact, but we are sowing into a legacy that outlives us. Above all, be assured that whatever you surrender for God’s purpose is not a loss; it is an investment into eternity. The benefits of releasing our resources to Jesus are not measured in earthly returns but in spiritual fruit and communal transformation.
So, when the Lord says, “I need it,” may we respond with open hands and willing hearts.
