“When he came near the place where the road goes down to the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen: ‘Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!” (Luke 19:37-38a NIV)
Today is Palm Sunday, a day that marks the beginning of the Passion Week, the final days of Jesus’ earthly ministry, and the most sacred days of the Christian calendar. On this day, we remember Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Riding on a humble donkey, He fulfilled prophecy and revealed Himself as the promised King, not a warrior with armies, but the Prince of Peace. The crowds spread cloaks and waved palm branches, crying “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!”
Yet His coming was more than a parade, more than a moment of joy and expectation; it also pointed toward the cross. When the King comes near, He confronts corruption, as seen in His cleansing of the Temple. He weeps over hearts that miss God’s visitation. Palm Sunday reminds us that Christ draws near not only to be celebrated but to transform lives. Reflection: Today, as we welcome the King, are we ready to let Him cleanse, renew, and reign in every part of our lives?
