“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will rule over Israel, … He will stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the lord, … And he will be their peace.” (Micah 5:2,4,5 NIV)
The prophecy of Micah in chapter 5, verses 2 to 5, is one of the most profound messianic promises in the Old Testament. It was written during a time of national crisis, Micah foretells the coming of a ruler from Bethlehem who would shepherd God’s people and bring peace. This passage connects the small, seemingly insignificant village of Bethlehem to the grand narrative of salvation that will reach every corner of the world.
The prophecy anticipates a salvation that begins locally but expands globally, for the Messiah’s greatness will extend “to the ends of the earth” (v.4). This universal scope is fulfilled in the gospel, which spreads from Bethlehem to Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and ultimately to all nations (Acts 1:8). The salvation story is not confined to Israel but embraces all humanity, breaking down barriers of ethnicity, culture, and geography.
The message of the gospel of Christ continues to transform lives across the globe. We are called to participate in spreading the gospel “to the ends of the earth.” Let us therefore join in Christ’s mission of peace and redemption for all. True peace is not found in fame, wealth, or position, but in reconciliation with God through Jesus.
