Preparing for The Lord’s Coming

“for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.” (1 Thessalonians 5:2 NIV).

Paul uses the metaphor of a thief in the night to emphasise the unexpected nature of Christ’s return. It won’t be announced or predictable. This verse is a wake-up call, an urgent reminder that since Christ’s return will be sudden and unexpected, believers in Christ should live daily with eternity in focus. The “Day of the Lord” refers to a time of divine intervention, judgment for the world, and deliverance for believers.

Being ready for Christ’s return is not optional; believers must live in spiritual alertness, not complacency. While others may feel secure in worldly peace, believers are called to discern the times and remain watchful. As children of light, and not of darkness (v.5), our lifestyle should reflect the light of Christ. Live each day as if that will be your last.

It is an undeniable truth that Christ is coming back, but no one knows the day or the hour. Preparing for the Lord’s coming is both a sacred responsibility and a joyful anticipation. Therefore, let us stay spiritually awake and do away with the deeds of darkness, cultivate a daily habit of prayer, study of God’s word, worship and reflection, and guard your heart against complacency. Will you be ready when the Lord shall come?
