Fathers as Gatekeepers

It’s another Father’s Day, another opportunity to appreciate and
celebrate our fathers. Our theme for this year is “Fathers as Gatekeepers.” The idea of fathers as gatekeepers is often rooted in biblical teachings, emphasising the importance of godly male leadership in the home, and studies have shown that fathers’ positive involvement impacts children’s development.

If the concept of “fathers as gatekeepers” would be adequately understood, then some questions must be addressed. Questions such as, Who is a gatekeeper? What are the characteristics or features of a gatekeeper? What are the duties of a gatekeeper? Among others. In summary, a gatekeeper protects and guards the life and property in the house, office, school or company. He possesses the key to the gate and is responsible for the gate’s opening and closing, thereby controlling the flow of people, animals, and goods in and out of the
premises.

Hence, presenting fathers as gatekeepers portrays the critical role fathers play in protecting, guiding, and shaping their families. Fathers are seen as spiritual, emotional, and physical protectors, ensuring their homes remain places of stability and growth. Fathers, you are called to lead your families in faith; protect your home from harmful and negative external influences; be vigilant and discerning; and take responsibility in shaping your children’s future. Therefore, considering the critical roles which fathers play, let us celebrate all
our fathers today and always.

We wish all fathers a happy and glorious Father’s Day celebration!!!
