‘“Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”’ (Matthew 9:37-38 NIV).
Jesus uses the metaphor of a harvest to describe the vast number of people ready to receive the Gospel. The “harvest” represents the unsaved multitudes who are yet to come to the saving knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. However, despite the multitudes of unsaved people, there are not enough workers to spread the gospel of Christ. Jesus then instructs His disciples to pray to the “Lord of the harvest” to send out more labourers.
This passage emphasises the urgency and opportunity for evangelism. There are many people who need to hear the Gospel, and they are ready to respond. Beloved, pray earnestly for more laborers to consider their own role in spreading the message of Christ. And pray earnestly for yourself that God will open your eyes to see and discover your own role in spreading the gospel of Christ. More people are needed to step up and engage in intercession, evangelism and discipleship. Are you willing to step up and join the harvesters?
