“See, the Lord your God has given you the land. Go up and take possession of it as the Lord, the God of your fathers, told you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” (Deuteronomy 1:21 NIV).
After wandering in the desert for 40 years, the Israelites were now on the brink of entering the Promised Land. So, Moses reminds the Israelites that God has already given them the land and recounts their history of how he had instructed them many years ago to “go up and take possession” of the land. However, due to discouragement, fear, and disobedience, their fathers could not. Moses was preparing the new gener to be courageous and step out in faith to possess the land.
Trusting in God’s presence and guidance helps us overcome fear and discouragement. Just as the Israelites were called to trust in God’s promise of the land, we, as Christians today, are encouraged to trust in God’s promises for our lives. As God’s children, let us remember that faith often requires action. Whatever God’s promises are in your life, you also must step out in faith and take possession of them. Therefore, step out in faith, face those challenges with courage, and possess your possessions.
