Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me.(Ezekiel 33:7 NIV).
A watchman warns people of any approaching danger, and God appoints Ezekiel as a watchman for Israel. Ezekiel’s role was to warn Israel about their sinful con-
duct and its consequences. God declares that He takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked. His desire is for people to come into repentance and live.
Just like Ezekiel, we, as believers today, are also called to be spiritual watchmen, discerning God’s truth and proclaiming it courageously. We learn that God’s judgments are fair. If we warn others and they don’t heed, their blood is on their own heads. But if we fail to warn, their blood is required from us. It is our re-
sponsibility as believers to faithfully proclaim God’s word and call people to repentance, even when it is difficult and seems unpopular.
